PBT is refining the future

With clever chemistry, we are reducing the CO2 emissions of battery material production, lowering the overall environmental footprint of Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Our smart, simple and green technology can refine intermediate raw materials like Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) or black mass from recycled batteries into high quality, clean battery material known as precursor Cathode Active Material (pCAM) for lithium-ion batteries.

Environmentally Sustainable

When making pCAM, our fully patented processes emit up to 85% less CO2 than standard refining methods leading to electric vehicle (EV) batteries made with PBT’s cathode material being less CO2 intensive.

Endless Value

PBT unlocks the value of previously less-viable nickel sources. We can process from a mix of feedstocks, some not currently suitable for the battery market. This means we can generate high-quality product from otherwise unusable stock. We are also more efficient and need a smaller footprint than other refineries. Our value is endless.

Truly Circular

Relying solely on raw critical minerals is not sustainable. Our technology can refine black mass from recycled batteries or off-spec battery materials in addition to raw material. This is true circular economy in action.

Our Technology

Our innovation is based on simplicity.

Standard methods of refining rely on metal separation to create pCAM. This is time intensive, uses high-heat, toxic solvents and emits significant CO2.

PBT’s technology skips the metal separation phase.

Without toxic solvents.

With less heat.

With less cost.

In less time.

Creating clean, high quality battery materials without the high CO2 burden.

Simplicity brings flexibility. We can adjust materials to specific ratios which produces bespoke battery material to meet our client’s needs.

Our technology was first discovered at the University of Queensland (UQ) and later commercialised by our team of highly experienced executives and accomplished scientists and engineers. All dedicated to quality research and development, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of cleaner battery materials.
