PBT is progressing a greener downstream refining pathway for Indonesia. Located in Central Java, the project will convert MHP into high-purity nickel products and battery-grade pCAM using our proprietary low-emissions technology. Positioning in Central Java also allows the refinery to develop a material recycling pathway as   volumes increase.

Indonesia is one of the world’s most important nickel markets and has a clear policy focus on building domestic downstream processing capability. This makes Indonesia a strong strategic fit for PBT, as it develops regional processing capacity closer to feedstock, infrastructure and future battery supply chains.

PBT’s unique low-carbon and cost-competitive processing technology provides Indonesia with a cleaner, more efficient pathway to extract greater value from its Nickel resources.

Project Overview

Plant Capacity:

• 44,000 tpa metal in pCAM
• 70,000 tpa pCAM

Location:

Central Jaava, Batang SEZ

Capex:

USD $350M + working capital

Environmental Benefits:

• Toxin-free and clean wastewater
• 75% – 90% reduction in CO2 emissions
• Inert solid waste materials
• Removal of particulate pollution associated with smelting

Job and Skills Forecasts:

• Approximately 1,000 + construction jobs
• Approximately 200 permanent operational jobs
• Local labour identification, training and utilisation
• Local construction and maintenance preference

2025

• Land review undertaken and land
• Letter of Interest (LOI) on the land located in Central Java in the Batang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) signed.
• Pre-feasibility actions completed to move to Feasibility

2026

• Indonesian company and office established
• Funding for feasibility study underway
• Feasibility delivery partners identified
• Project delivery funding options identified
