Hagen Expansion Project

In September 2020, PBT acquired the Königswarter & Ebell Chemische Fabrik (“K+E”) facility in Hagen, Germany. The acquisition supports PBT’s strategy to scale its proprietary processing technology to commercial operations by expanding and upgrading the existing plant.

While feasibility and planning activities have progressed, the K+E facility has continued operating—providing ongoing production capability alongside a demonstration platform for PBT’s technology. PBT processes are best in class environmentally and will reduce CO2 emissions of processing raw intermediate materials by up to 80%.

Hagen Processing Plant is currently producing Ni chemical products
~35 employees with significant experience in Ni chemical operations
The existing operation has a strong reputation in the industry as a quality producer of Ni products
Permitted to store 170 tonnes of hazardous material
Operates an existing sample testing laboratory

Key Expansion Metrics

Hagen Processing Plant currently has 1.5ktpa capacity with additional capacity to be added for a total of minimum 10ktpa of capacity
Utilise proprietary PBT technologies for the direct production of NMC pCAM and BNC materials
Upgrade of WWTP will be undertaken to enable feed material to be expanded to MHP and Black Mass

Expanded Plant

Expansion permits received 2024
Start of Production is earmarked for early 2028.
Total investment of approximately €90Mio.
